Yarrow Moon

Midwifery

Serving families seeking home birth in central Indiana.

Holistic, Individualized Care.

Who We Are

Yarrow is a healing herb used since the beginning of time, especially in childbirth. Moon is in honor of Lacey's mother and an ode to her lineage that brought her to this place of service to women and the generations that follow through those women. Together, Yarrow Moon Midwifery is the culmination of her heart's work over the last two decades and those yet to come.

Yarrow Moon Midwifery is a homebirth midwifery practice serving families within a 45-minute radius of Avon, Indiana.

As a midwife, Lacey believes that pregnancy and birth are divinely designed, sacred, and fundamentally normal physiological processes. She is committed to protecting this process and the birth space, respecting the mother's decisions as each low-risk pregnancy and labor naturally unfolds. The foundations of her care are built on mutual respect, support, minimal interventions, and a basis of both ancestral and current knowledge.

She provides holistic, unbiased, evidence-based prenatal, birth, and postpartum care, with the woman and her family as the focus. Lacey aspires to equip each woman and her family with the knowledge and information needed to make their own decisions about their care through an ongoing, evidence-based, informed-consent process, sharing the risks and benefits of each situation, treatment, and available option.

She provides a safe space for questions and discussions about their care, so families are fully informed at every step of their journey. Lacey believes her role in the process is that of a guardian, as the parents take responsibility for this part of their lives through informed consent and shared decision-making.

Her role in labor and birth is traditional, with a hands-off approach and low to no interventions, while remaining attentive and available to the mother and family as needs arise. Protecting and maintaining the mother’s autonomy, freedom of movement and position, eating and drinking, and the general atmosphere she desires is of high priority, while monitoring the progression and well-being of both mother and baby throughout labor and intervening only when necessary. Providing this individualized care creates an empowering, encouraging, and supportive environment in which the mother and family can trust in her body’s natural ability to birth and then nourish her baby within the comfort of her own home in a process that not only protects and facilitates a physiologically intact atmosphere but also the bonding and establishment of breastfeeding, involving the entire family unit, if desired.

The heart of her philosophy is the belief that every woman and family deserves safe, personalized, and informed care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Her reverence for the incredible design of pregnancy and birth guides her philosophy of care. It is her honor to journey alongside families as they welcome their newest members.

Home Birth Eligibility

Homebirth midwifery care is safe for healthy, low-risk pregnancies. Ongoing, comprehensive prenatal care evaluates the health status of the mother, fetus, and pregnancy, and, as risks arise, physician consults and referrals are utilized to help determine homebirth eligibility within the midwife’s scope/comfort level and Indiana state law. The client’s eligibility status for homebirth may change across the prenatal course, but the option to continue co-prenatal care and continue postpartum care after birth remains intact.

Meet the Team

Lacey Powell

Midwife, CPM CDEM

Lacey is a NARM-Certified Professional Midwife and state-licensed Certified Direct Entry Midwife. Her fascination with birth started as a child, as she observed the births of her farm animals. A soul fire was lit when she attended her first human homebirth at just 15 years old. Lacey has been serving women in childbirth for 24 years now, starting as a doula, progressing to a homebirth assistant, and eventually pursuing midwifery, graduating with a degree in the Science of Midwifery from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in December 2025. She is a childbirth and birth assistant educator with a love for teaching.

Calm and supportive in nature, Lacey prides herself on helping mothers follow their intuition while listening to their bodies during the birthing process. Her roots in traditional midwifery guide her to create a safe environment where mothers can let their births unfold as naturally and intervention-free as possible. She believes that pregnancy and childbirth are natural life occurrences during which our ancestral wisdom guides us through the divinely designed processes. Lacey firmly believes that the way women and babies are cared for during the childbearing year leaves a lasting impact on the generations that follow. Spanning two decades of experience, Lacey’s practice, Yarrow Moon Midwifery, blends deep clinical knowledge with heartfelt care to support women and their families through every stage of their pregnancy, birth and postpartum, allowing them to feel empowered and safe in their choices.

Outside of birth, Lacey is a mom of four children, ages 18 to 9 years old, all born naturally in the hospital, a birth center, and the last two at home. She and her husband reside in Avon and are actively looking for land to build their dream homestead. She enjoys building things, home projects, crocheting, reading, coffee, painting, being outside in the sunshine, big belly laughs, music, and spending time with her loved ones. Her deep faith in Jesus guides her, and her motivation is love.
